Barkies New Zealand was founded in Napier by James, along with his two loyal sidekicks, Klohe and Cruz. What started as a passion for giving his own dogs healthier, tastier snacks quickly grew into a mission to share that same goodness with pups all across Aotearoa.
At Barkies, we believe treats should be more than just a quick snack, they should be crafted with the same care you’d put into food for your family. That’s why every Barkies treat is baked fresh to order, using only premium, dog-friendly ingredients. You won’t find any artificial colours, flavours, preservatives, added sugar, or salt in our recipes, just natural goodness that keeps tails wagging and noses sniffing.
Our Story
Like most great ideas, Barkies began at home. James was frustrated with store bought treats filled with ingredients he couldn’t even pronounce, so he rolled up his sleeves and started baking. With the help of his “official taste testers,” Klohe and Cruz, the recipes were refined until they struck the perfect balance of flavour and nutrition.
Word spread quickly, and soon dogs beyond Napier were begging for Barkies. From our kitchen to yours, every batch is still baked with that same philosophy: wholesome, healthy, and made with love.
Today, Barkies has become more than a bakery , it’s a community of dog lovers who believe our four-legged friends deserve only the best.

Things You Might Be Wondering
How should I store Barkies treats?
Keep them in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. Since they’re made fresh, they’re best enjoyed within 2–3 weeks of delivery since your 4 legged friends will smell them out , they do last for 12 months.
Do you deliver outside of Napier?
Absolutely. We ship New Zealand-wide so every pup can get a Barkies fix.
Who tests your treats?
Our “taste testing team” — Klohe, Cruz, and a group of very eager furry friends give every recipe their paw of approval before it makes it into your dog’s treat jar.
Are Barkies treats safe for all dogs?
Yes! All of our recipes are made with natural, dog-friendly ingredients. If your dog has specific allergies or dietary needs, check the ingredients list before purchasing.
Do you use preservatives?
Nope. Our treats are baked fresh daily without artificial preservatives, colours, or flavours. That’s why they taste and look so good!
